Create a Modem

Before you follow the steps on this page of the documentation be sure to first:

  1. Add a Cost Center (in case you use the BillingBase module)
  2. Create a Customer (Contract)
  3. Create Configuration File


1. Click provisioning > contracts

shows table of contracts

2. Select and click desired contract

shows corresponding customer

Further windows like e.g.

  • Assigned Modems
  • Assigned Items
  • Assigned SEPA-Mandates
  • Assigned Tickets

can be seen as an overview on the right side of this contract/customer page.

3. Move mouse to top right window named "Assigned Modems"  and click the "+" button to add the customers modem

Note: This is a recursive process! Hence, you can not go to the Modems table directly to add a new modem.

4.Click the Save / Restart button on the bottom of the Modem page

At the top of the window you get coloured information like e.g.:

  • Created!
  • Could not restart Modem! (offline?)
  • Could not determine geo coordinates (ZERO_RESULTS) - please add manually

The Hostname is automatically set by the system and not changeable. The name is freely choosable.


The navigation bar on the very top of NMS Prime is showing the relations starting from the index page of the currently displayed page (e.g. modem) and is clickable, so you can open the corresponding list (e.g. list of modems) or navigate quickly through the related pages.


Example: Add a demo modem

In this video we will create a cost-center for billing, a first demo contract and add a modem which we have already connected to our CMTS. Afterwards we will assign a Internet Item to this contract.
