Enable & prerequisites

  1. Install / enable the Monitoring package (nmsprime-provmon) with its companion services (pollers, Grafana, Cacti as required by your deployment).

  2. Confirm OS Provisioning has modems and network gateways with reachable management IPs / credentials.

  3. Open Monitoring Config and set spectrum start/stop/span, realtime update interval, and DHCP flapping threshold.

  4. Assign Grafana dashboards on configfiles that should show history on the analysis page.

Cloud-hosted tenants usually have pollers and Grafana pre-wired; on-prem follow Monitoring setup.

Analyse a modem

  1. Open the modem in provisioning (or find it via IP search).

  2. Open Analysis.

  3. Wait for realtime tables (channel power, MER, frequencies, etc.); check critical-value highlighting.

  4. Use tabs for pre-eq (DOCSIS), spectrum / FBC when supported, logs / lease / config (from provisioning), and Grafana history.

  5. Optionally run ping / flood-ping or Arris iperf when enabled.

Analyse a network gateway

  1. Open the NetGw (CMTS / OLT) in provisioning.

  2. Open Analysis for the gateway.

  3. Review realtime SNMP tables for channels and related counters.

  4. Drill into individual modems from plant tools or Detect when an impairment is cluster-wide.

Spectrum

  1. On a supported modem, start spectrum / full-band capture from Analysis.

  2. Adjust Monitoring Config start/stop/span if the capture window is wrong for your plant plan.

  3. Compare with neighbourhood devices when isolating plant vs home.

With Prime Detect

  1. Use Detect for topography, ERD, and the trouble dashboard when many devices are impaired.

  2. Jump back to Monitoring Analysis for the specific modem or NetGw that needs RF detail.

  3. Raise a Ticket (and optionally dispatch via Workforce) when a truck or specialist is required.

When something looks wrong

  • Empty realtime tables → device offline, wrong community / ACS reachability, or poller not running

  • Missing Grafana → configfile has no dashboard, or Grafana credentials / provisioning not installed

  • Spectrum fails → device model unsupported, or span outside what the CPE can capture

  • Flapping never shows → threshold not set in Monitoring Config, or DHCP logs not present on the host

Legacy hub content (videos & media)

NMS Prime is a CRM, BSS and OSS platform for ISPs and Telcos.

Prime Monitoring is the core package for the entire monitoring module in NMS Prime. This module is used for cable access monitoring.

It provides real-time monitoring data and a short technical analysis about network events.

Pro hint: It is best used in combination with Prime Detect to manage impairments asap or even before they occur.

Package name: nmsprime-provmon

1.3. Legacy overview

Detailed capability tables historically lived on this hub. Canonical lists are now in Feature List (Prime Monitoring) and Official Documentation (Prime Monitoring). Media and videos below are preserved on this page for native copy.

1.4. Requirements

  • Cacti

  • nmsprime-base

  • modempoller-nmsprime

  • cacti-nmsprime / Grafana pollers (package dependencies)
